Bio

Hashim Davis is a native of Brooklyn, New York. He completed his undergraduate studies at Virginia Union University, receiving a dual degree in History and Political Science. Hashim began his career as a public school history teacher. For nearly 25 years, he has taught history at middle and high school levels. During this time, he pursued a degree in Secondary History Education from the University of Mary Washington. He also studied the history of Jim Crow at Yale University.

Hashim has an extensive background in Holocaust and Genocide studies. He was selected for numerous fellowships in the area of Holocaust studies, including a Museum Teaching Fellow for the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, a teaching fellow for the Rafael Schachter Defiant Requiem, a teaching fellow for The Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights-(TOLI); Anti-Defamation League Echoes and Reflection Advanced Seminar Teaching Fellow; the Alfred Lerner Teaching fellow for the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous; and a teaching fellow for the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas-(JCRC). 

Hashim also serves as Assistant Director for the National History Academy and as a teaching facilitator for Echoes and Reflection, where he trains teachers to use pedagogy effectively when teaching the Holocaust. His training has taken him to study around the world.

Hashim's interest includes African American and African Diaspora Studies and the infrastructure of Caste systems, including Jim Crow and German Nuremberg Racial Laws. In this effort, Hashim has volunteered for the Black Male Initiative for many years.

Hashim is an active Life Member with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, where he currently serves as the Chapter Historian and Director of Education Affairs with the Gamma Alpha Lambda Alumni chapter seated in Charlottesville. He has served in numerous leadership roles, including President, Vice President, Area Director, and State Historian, and for ten years as the chapter advisor to the Iota Beta Chapter-(University of Virginia)-where he received the Chapter Advisor of the Year-(2016).

He is an avid reader, chess player, jazz aficionado, and collector of all things Batman.

Among the many accolades and accomplishments, he is proud to be the father of his children.
