OAAA Alumni Engagement

Natasha Holloran

Name: Natasha Halloran

Hometown: Chesapeake, VA

Year of Graduation: 2018 & 2021 #doublehoo

Major: Double majored in Spanish and Foreign Affairs & UVA Law School

Occupation: Lawyer

Wisdom / advice: The best advice I received at UVA was "to spend quality time with quality people." When I reflect on my time at UVA, I cherish most the lifelong friendships I fostered and the opportunities that expanded my horizons, such as studying abroad, joining a sorority and other organizations, and tackling leadership roles. I highly recommend using the UVA microcosm to jump out of your comfort zone and genuinely engage with the individuals and community around you.

Favorite OAAA memory: My favorite OAAA memory is based on the fellowship in the office. Whether I went to the office to study, decompress, or enjoy music and food on "Black Fridays," I truly enjoyed this safe haven space where I could be my authentic self.

Student Spotlight: Gavin Schweiter

Gavin Schweiter is a First-Year from Stafford, Virginia, working towards getting into the McIntire School of Commerce. During Gavin’s first semester at the University, he engaged with the community by becoming a Black Friday volunteer at the Office of African-American Affairs (OAAA) and joining several clubs on Grounds such as the Scholars of Finance, the Accounting Society at McIntire, and Young Life. He is also on the UVA Women's basketball team's practice squad. After graduation, Gavin plans to pursue a career in finance and accounting.

Quote of the Week

“I think I’ve had more failures than successes, but I don’t see the failures as mistakes because I always learned something from those experiences. I see them as having not achieved the initial goal, nothing more than that.” -- James West
James West (born February 10, 1931) is a professor of electrical and computer engineering and mechanical engineering and an inventor who holds more than 60 U.S. patents and more than 200 foreign patents using polymer foil electrets in transducers.
